200 Hrs Yoga Teacher Training Curriculam

The mantra to longlasting learning is you may just learn one thing but do it perfectly with continuous practice. The traditional Hatha Yoga training course is designed to offer you a versatile and well rounded syllabus for your personal growth as well as your growth as a teacher. This program is not just to bag a certificate but a transformation journey to self exploration and growth. The 3 weeks course will cover:

Shatakarma Kriya

Often known as the cleansing process however it's not just any cleansing. Shatakarma are the yogic cleansing processes which focuses on internal cleansing to set your physical body ready for the yogic practices. There are at least 3 cleansing methods you will learn which have different purposes, method, time and frequency of practicing. You will be starting your day here with jalneti (nasal cleansing) everyday and progressing to learn two more during your time here. The teacher will explain the pre and post preparation, theory and purpose and you will practice under their guidance.

Mantra Chanting

The word Mantra is a Sanskrit word that can be understood by bifurcating the word Man (mind) -traa (tool), a powerful tool gifted by ancient scriptures to focus and liberate the mind just by chanting it in a certain rhythm. The very first session of the day is Mantra chanting purposely scheduled to start the day with high energy. You will learn 5-8 mantras, the right pronunciation of each word, recitation, understanding the sounds resonance with the subtle body and come to a divine balance. You might experience the unexplainable influence of mantra chanting on the nervous system that makes you feel alleviated and free.

Pranayama

At Yogshastram we have special focus on this powerful practice that is often undervalued in yoga learning. We learn about various breathing techniques onto further exploring the connection between breath, energy and mind. You will learn about purpose, physiology and anatomical impact of various pranayam as listed below along with daily practice:

  • Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing)
  • Bhastrika (Bellows Breath)
  • Kapalabhati (Skull-Shining Breath)
  • Bhramari (Bee Breath)
  • Anulom Vilom (Alternate Breathing Without Retention)
  • Sheetali (Cooling Breath)
  • Sheetkari (Hissing Breath)
  • Ujjayi (Victorious Breath)
  • Surya Bhedana (Right Nostril Breathing)
  • Chandra Bhedana (Left Nostril Breathing)

Asana Practice

Daily two asanas classes are scheduled to give as much knowledge and practical experience as possible to our students. Each teacher, we believe, has something special and different to share with their students, hence two separate teachers. The classes will cover the foundation of asanas practice, understanding the body mechanics, alignment and common misalignment and very importantly the role of breathing. The category of asanas will be:

  • Standing asanas
  • Seated asanas
  • Forward folds
  • Backbends
  • Twists
  • Balancing asanas
  • Hip openers
  • Inversion asanas
  • Restorative asanas

Anatomy and Physiology

You will develop an understanding of the human body (yogic body), its anatomical structure, functions and its impact through yogic practice. You will also study about the musculoskeletal system, Nervous, Respiratory systems, endocrine glands and hormones. About immunity, digestion, nadi, mudra, chakra to state the least. Concepts of Ayurveda, Naturopathy also covered.

Yoga Philosophy

Origin & history of Yoga, Patanjali yogasutra, concepts of Pancha kosha, Prana & Pancha Prana, obstacles of yoga, Ashtanga yoga (eight limbs of Yoga explained by Sage Patanjali), Sankhya Philosophy etc. Interactive sessions encourage the students to ask and share questions. This enables us to create an open environment to understand the philosophy of yoga (life) in a simple yet effective manner. And a few guests lecture on spiritual take on life in today's day and age.

Asana Alignment and Adjustment

This class is an integral part of the teaching to prepare future instructors to guide their class with foundational and basic concepts of alignment, detailed discussion and demonstrations on anatomical alignment and its challenges based on various body types, alignment specif to certain poses and postures (asanas) etc. This class is a balanced combination of lecture, demonstration and practice. The class is conducted in an interactive manner to give you the opportunity to clarify your doubts or questions if any.

Meditation

During the daily meditation classes students learn and experience the physiological, emotional and spiritual significance of this powerful practice. The teacher will take the class through various methods of meditation and stepwise guidance to practice.

The classes also cover the key elements of practicing mediation like posture, breathing, setting the favourable environment, establishing the routine etc.
